Out in Oxford is an LGBTQ+ trail of the University of Oxford’s collections. The trail is the result of ‘Celebrating Diversity’, a project funded by Arts Council England and facilitated by Pitt Rivers Museum with LGBTQ+ community members and allies. To mark the launch of the trail in Feburary 2017, and with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, community partners and museum staff curated a series of events and activities open to the general public. Nearly fifty volunteers who identify as LGBTQ+ or are allies have been involved writing the interpretations and co-curating the trail’s launch events. With these interpretations we strive to celebrate diversity and highlight LGBTQ+ experiences. Through Out in Oxford, we hope to offer alternative insights into our shared, queer heritage.
